About The Salome Foundation
"When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body."
Mark 16:1 NIV
One Saturday in 2018, the founder of The Salome Foundation, Taler Jefferson took a spontaneous trip to Houston to visit her uncle. That Sunday morning, they attended Brentwood Baptist Church, where Dr. Keri Day was the Women’s Day speaker. Dr. Day's message resonated with Taler in ways she could never imagine. On that day, Taler believes God was speaking directly to her. Dr. Day spoke about Salome—how righteous and demanding she was—and emphasized the responsibility of Black and Brown people, especially women, to be vessels of change within their communities. At that moment, Taler knew she had to bring The Salome Foundation to life. For years, Taler envisioned creating a nonprofit organization—one built for the community, by the community.
During Dr. Day’s sermon, God whispered into Taler's ear: “Step out on faith and never become discouraged. You must remain faithful and do what I have called you to do—rebuild, educate, and serve. Go forth.” That was the confirmation she needed. From that day forward, Taler has been committed to launching The Salome Foundation, turning her vision into reality and her faith into action.
